Dune

Dune — Plot

Dune by Frank Herbert is set in a distant future where humanity has spread across the stars and the fate of entire worlds depends on political rivalries, ancient prophecies, and control of melange, the most valuable substance in the known universe. Found only on Arrakis, a planet of endless dunes, the spice is essential to interstellar travel. It also prolongs life and heightens awareness, sometimes unlocking the ability to perceive possible futures. When the Emperor places Arrakis under House Atreides’ control, the decision becomes part of a carefully orchestrated political scheme in which betrayal threatens to destroy an entire dynasty. Yet beyond the conflict between powerful houses lies a broader struggle involving the Fremen, the planet’s native people, religious expectations, and forces that could reshape human civilization. Blending political intrigue with the struggle for survival
