Biography
Nicolangelo Gelormini was born in Naples. After graduating with a degree in Architecture, he earned his diploma from the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia.
In 2011, he won the Raindance Film Festival with his short film Reset. In 2014, he directed the music video All the things for the eponymous song written by David Lynch and performed by Chrysta Bell. In 2020, he wrote, directed, and edited his first feature film Fortuna, which won the Bronze Horse at the Stockholm International Film Festival. In 2023, he presented the documentary Lucio Amelio at the Rome Film Fest, earning a Special Nastro d’Argento (Silver Ribbon) award. Between 2020 and 2024, he directed four short films for Roger Vivier, starring Christina Ricci, Isabelle Huppert, Laura Dern, and Eva Green. In 2024, he directed an episode of the series L'arte della gioia (The Art of Joy), which was presented at the 77th edition of the Cannes Film Festival and went on to win the Nastro d'Argento - Grandi Serie as well as three David di Donatello awards.
In 2025, he presented his second feature film La gioia (Gioia), in competition at Giornate degli Autori at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival. The film won the Silver Astor for Best Director and Best Actor at the 40th Mar del Plata International Film Festival, along with the Globo d’oro (Golden Globe Italy) for Best Screenplay.
