I gave this an honest chance, but the sheer amount of gratuitous violence completely put me off. Instead of feeling dramatic or clever, the relentless brutality just felt exhausting and hollow. I couldn't find any emotional warmth or reason to care about anyone.

The way it balances lavish historical drama with intimate, quiet domestic sadness is so well done. Some later seasons felt a bit uneven as the cast shifted, but the sharp dialogue and nuanced acting kept me invested through all six seasons. It captures the heavy, isolating cost of duty without losing its humanity. Beautifully written television.
